The 2022 CW Award for the Modular Contractor of the Year was won by MFC Container Concepts for the RAK Zipline Welcome Center Project.
The company was applauded for providing a viable option to reduce carbon footprint, especially, by assisting the disposal of construction waste in a more controlled manner.
MFC Container Concepts was chosen by their long-term client for understanding the benefits of modular construction and its sustainable credentials and opting for a more sustainable solution instead of brick and mortar structure for the popular RAK Zipline project in the Jabeel Jais mountains at the height of 1484 meters above sea-level.
MFC Concepts was tasked with a design and build project for a new Zipline Welcome Centre under Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority up in the Jebel Jais Mountains. Considering the environmental sensitivity and in order to create minimum adverse impact on existing land, it was decided to pursue the idea of utilizing 8 upcycled shipping containers for the build. Finally the whole building was prefabricated in a factory and installed at site within a record time of 3 months. Some key aspects of this building is its unique cantilevered first floor, an open deck for patrons to soak in the beauty of the surrounding mountain ranges and most importantly as RAKTDA is planning several dynamic and sustainable projects in Jebel Jais this building has been designed to be split apart into individual containers and be relocated at another site with minimum cost and time impact.
